Hello friends - I just finished producing a Free Civil War Coloring Book for kids. I still have to design the parent page on my website, but here is a link to the file for anyone who may be interested. It is 14 pages and presents a simple (an unbiased) introduction to the War Between The States. Enjoy!
File (Adobe Acrobat PDF) here: http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/pinstripepress/KidsCW.pdf
(This project came about as my one daughter who loves to color and read was asking me some questions about the Civil War. I looked around on the internet and found a few CW coloring books, but none really explained anything in "kid's-speak." Most were just "color-in the uniform-types" most importantly, even fewer were free.)

Thanks. I'm glad you liked it. Here's a little background for the page that I still have to create:
For Parents:
As a parent of three children living in the heart of Civil War country, I understand how difficult it can be to explain the concept of a "civil war" to kids. Everyday, my own children here in Virginia ride past many Civil War monuments and flags on their way to school. For them, understanding what transpired here, when Americans fought other Americans, is easier said than done. This project came about as my one daughter, who loves to color, asked some questions about The War Between the States. Not wanting to get too "Civil War Buff" on her, I browsed the Internet for children's material and found a few coloring books on the subject. Unfortunately, none of them really explained anything in "kid's-talk." Most were simple "color in the uniform-types" and few were free. Therefore I have created what I feel to be a very unbiased and simple introduction to the Civil War for kids 8 and under.
This standard-paper-size, 14-page coloring book defines the basics including: The Civil War, The Confederates, The Federals, The Infantry, The Cavalry, Drummer Boys, Pickets, New Recruits, Army Camps, Medical Care, Great Leaders, The Surrender, and Hallowed Grounds. Written in short sentence structure, using simple terms, this book contains wonderful illustrations that will make learning fun. Best of all it is 100% FREE and available here as a downloadable Adobe Acrobat PDF file. Simply Open and/or Save the (KidsCW.pdf) file and print it out using your Acrobat Reader. Feel free to share with anyone and everyone, and please let me know if you found this presentation helpful in teaching your kids about one of the most important times in American history. Enjoy!

Great job! I printed it off for my grandchildren. It is very well done, unbiased and well balanced. My only suggestion for reconsideration would be the rebel flag used on page 3. Don't get me wrong, I am southern all the way. I would just hate for that to be a hangup for someone else that might like it for their children. Could you not use the Stars and Bars or am I just being paronoid here? Gosh, I hate that. Sorry!

Hi Colleen. I'm glad you liked it.
I see "in theory" your point, but it's hard not to have the soldier carry a CSA battle flag on the page that defines "The Confederates".
(Within the context, I think its fine). Thanks again!
