Hey Dixie I guess we aint the yougest ones around anymore.
Hey, first things first I am assumeing by your username that yer a reb like me so here goes. The youngest in my reenactment group is a drummer he is a little older than you. There are also bending on what type of unit you join powdermonkeies around you age as well. Well cost wise can be pretty high. For everything altogether it can cost $1,000 dolars a up. It just depends on where you buy yer stuff at. Dont by at a Tent suttler at a reenactment they tend to be over priced and very low grade stuff. You dont need to buy everything at once just what you need right off. Keep and eye out on sales and stuff at sutlers on the internet or at a Store sutler. You can find really good quality stuff for a lesser price. Also look at ebay from time to time but becareful somethings arent as good as they seem. Oh and welcome to CWI.

I was present at Baldwin County,Alabama in May to celebrate the return of the Ft. Blakely Garrison flag. One of the Confederate reenactors was a young man of 14. He had an important role in the ceremony and was superb!
Reenacting,at least to this spectator is as much about the portrayal(sp) as it is about shootin a musket.

The young man I describe was part of a ceremonial unit and he accepted a symbolic flag, representative of the Ft Blakeley flag, on behalf of all Confederate forces. It was quite moving.
He had a rifle, but I can'y recall him with it during the flag transfer ceremony.
I believe he did a stint as a member of the honor guard protecting the flag.... one union soldier, one confederate,ar arms,at attention, one on either side of the flag, all afternoon.

Well dont forget plenty of kids around our age, I'm 15, did plenty of things other than carrying a rifle. Heres a few:
Message carrier
Drummer
Fiffer
Bugler
Flag barer
Servant
Hospital Steward
Powder Monkey
Drum Major
Infantrymen
Mascot
I dont carry a gun caues I dont want till I am sixteen. I heard the sixteen rule before. Some times they go by height. Cause if you are in two lines a grown man has to be able to aim over you shoulder but who knows.

Unless you're 16 and have gone through hunter safety you aren't likely to be allowed on the field w/ a weapon and rounds.
