Manassas traffic is horrible!!! Definitely my least favorite stop this year....it's hard to get a feel for a battlefield when it's in segments divided by extremely busy roads.
Gettysburg is bad at times but Manassas is the worst imo.

I decided to skip Richmond in favor of some badly needed R&R in Virginia Beach. Good decision....Mariners Museum at Norfolk, harbor tour, and a room on the beach....nice.
I figure Richmond will be better as a long weekend later this year.

also Gettysburg in the Fall sounds like an Idea...still need to get some decent pics of Culp's hill....not to mention a few more at Antietam. Yeungling's beer was a nice discovery also.

Seems like the closer you get to Washington D.C. the worse the traffic.  We stopped at Spotslyvania and Chancellorsville on the way back to South Carolina from muster this year .  No way we could turn in at the shelter at Wilderness as there was a major traffic accident right there which included five cars and all kinds of emergency vehicles.

My friend was doing drive bys which was okay as my knee was done in .  At least I got to see the site where Jackson was shot , and a few other places.
