Ok, this is a photo from my local paper which was taken at a Civil War related event in one of the towns in this region. Wasn't there, didn't even know about it until I saw the paper this morning. But looking at the photo I just can't picture him as the man he's portraying. I'd like to get some of your opinions as to who he's supposed to be before I tell you.

My initial response was Grant, but just to be different I'll go with Alan Pinkerton.

Hmmm... I said Sherman and I guess I'll stick to it, but I'm not sure that would be so surprising to Hellcat. Perhaps Meade, though I don't remember if he was a smoker or not.

Perhaps Grant is a bit too obvious. How about Sheridan?

Thank you Javal, that was my thoughts. He is supposed to be Grant (irony for you, it's Sam Grant portraying US Grant) but I look at him and think he makes a better Sherman. Hair colors wrong, but he just looks more like Sherman than Grant to me.

I think the cigar is the prop that made Grant seem like the obvious pick. But then, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

I know who he's supposed to be protraying, as I already said. But even though he's smoking a cigar I just look at the face and think he looks more like Sherman than Grant. I don't know what it is, really, that makes me think that. But that's what I think everytime I look at the photo.

Of course considering his name it seems rather obvious he'd probably portray Grant.

Dang! I missed the shoulder boards. I think he portrays a passable Grant... better than some I have seen! But you are right Hellcat, give the beard a tinge of red and you have a pretty good Sherman.

I apologize in advance,
