Yep it's time for my semi-annual Civil war, battlefield tramping, photographic vacation. This time it's Corinth/Shiloh, places I haven't visited since 2008. I'm pretty well read up on the battles so I know most of what I want to see and shoot, but I am open to suggestions...any off the beaten track places I should see? restaurants? non-civil war related places? I used to live in Jackson, TN.....Whenever I went to Shiloh, it was MANDITORY to eat there!! Next year, me & my reenacting unit will participate in the 150th Shiloh....I have made it plain that if I hafta crawl to Catfish Hotel, I will  There used to be a neat souveneer shop near the battlefield, but I think someone said it is closed now....I don't recall the name....Maybe it was "Shaw's".... Hey, Thanks!!! Wait till you try their cole slaw!!! We'll be going as a Reb Artillery unit.....We'll be in Ruggle's line for a total of 62 Conf. artillery peices!!! I can't wait to feel the earth shake!!!

Possibly....a good one to have I think. I suspect I will be able to do both if all goes as expected. Seeing and hearing 62 field pieces and climbing mount Fuji all in one year? Now that's epic!

I don't remember exactly where I heard this, but I believe the new movie will be premiering at the Shiloh sesquicentennial. Say so long to a cult favorite and hello to a much more polished production.

Macon Light Artillery Abel....he joined at the tender age of 17. also have a GG Grandpa in the 2nd Ga. cavalry reg. under Forrest and later Wheeler, GG uncle who became a galvanized yankee, a couple more ancestors who rode with Quantrill, another one was with Bledsoe's Mo. battery...fun families back then LOL!

ya Know Tim I usually skip those park movies...they are usually too basic, and like most of us here, by the time I get to a battlefield I've read a stack of books on the subject...plus I'm always eager to get out on the ground and tramp....but I might check out the new film just to give it a fair shot. Getting stoked about this trip...one more week.....!

In my opinion the best NPS movie out there is the Antietam one. Its a couple years old now, but still a great intro to the battle. Mark

I was there last year....should've given it a go but I was splitting time between Antietam, Gettysburg, and Harpers Ferry so it was a pretty quick run through the visitors center. I plan to go back in the next year or so. Wish I lived a bit closer to the major battlefields sometimes.
