Took an unplanned 3 day trip to Vicksburg last week and thought I would share the pics.

Nice!! I like the black and white photos. I think maybe because they give the feel of historic and hallowed rather than beautiful and park like. I love the Vicksburg battlefield, but sometimes I am concerned it is thought of more as a park - a place to walk, jog, and ride, rather than a place that arguably changed the course of American history.

Sorry - I'll climb down off my soapbox. These are wonderful pictures that have me yearning for a trip back down there. Thank you for sharing. You have a good eye and quite a talent.

Thank you Tim! I fully understand what you mean concerning the local attitude towards the battlefield. You really have to watch out for joggers and dog walkers.....I could've bagged several had I not been alert. I definitely got the impression that they were not concerned with the historic nature of the ground their poodles were pooping on.

very nice.

IIRC, major work was done on the park in the 1930s.

planting trees, removing trees, re-digging entrenchments, anyone know?

Hank-

Here is a discussion about Vicksburg and some of the work that happened in the 30's.
