In case anyone will be in the Columbus, Georgia area on September 22nd & 23rd, 2006, The National Civil War Naval Museum at Port Columbus will be hosting the 4th Annual Civil War Naval Symposium. There will be a reception on Friday the 22nd and the sessions will be on Saturday the 23rd. For more information please go to the web site http://WWW.portcolumbus.org. Here is a list of sessions: William A Webb and the Loss of the CSS Atlanta by Dr. Maurice Melton. The Overlapping Histories of the USS Alligator and the Confederate Hunley by Mark Ragan. The USS Cairo: History and Artifacts of a Civil War Gunboat by Elizabeth Joyner (She’s the Curator at Vicksburg National Military Park). The Southern Journey of a Civil War Marine by Edward P. Cotham. What did you know and When did you know it? The Story of the ORN’s by Jeffery Seymour, Curator at Port Columbus.

I heard Ed Cotham speak last year at the West Coast Civil War Round Table Conference in Fresno. He did two presentations . One on the Battle of Galveston and the other on Battle of Sabine Pass. He is not to be missed if you get a chance. He was a story teller . Not just telling the facts but telling the story even adding some humor when it was there to be told. Wish I was going to be in the area to hear him. This years West Coast Round Table in in Sacramento November 10-12. The theme is Aspects of the War on the Waters. Ed Bearss and Craig Symonds are speaking . Our own Jim Strandbery from Orange County Round Table and board member at the Drum Barracks will also be speaking .

I have never had the pleasure of hearing any of the Speakers.. But Have visited the Museum there.. That Alone is worth the trip..

David thanks for the information. I plan to e there for the whole conference. A whle group of us from Orange County Round Table are going again this year. We went to Fresno last year . Had a great time . Learned a lot about the Civil War in the Southwest last year.
