A colleague recently asked me a question regarding William Faulner's short story, "A Rose for Emily." Faulner alludes to a cemetary in Jefferson, Mississippi in which Yankees and Rebels are buried. Can anyone shed some light on a possible battle of Jefferson that I am not familiar with?

Is there even a town in Mississippi named Jefferson? I think Faulkner made it up.

In that case I am not aware of any significant action that took place in that part of Mississippi.
