Welcome to the New CWi forum. We realize it's quite ...um... blue right now. That's changeable by you very simply. Read on and we'll tell you how to do that and much more. The most important thing is to have fun and feel free to experiment with the board. Because we opened earlier than planned due to the need to post Katrina related items, you'll find that we're still adjusting the board here and there.
Very nice national map showing member locations...
Under your "My Account" button (top right of the screen) > Profile
When you set your state it adds you to a graphical US map which shows where all members are from. Kind of neat. To see the map, click the "Members" button in the upper right. You'll see a sortable list of members. Just click on anyone's state and you'll see the map.
To change the look or "theme" of the board...
Under your "My Account" button (top right of the screen) > Preferences
You can set the look of the board. Look for "board theme" drop-down. Only 3 to choose from right now, but more should be added in the near future. The first (the bright blue you see now is "Default". You will also see a "Default 2" - we're still teaking that one. The third choice is "Shades" - a nice subtle brown/tan theme. Change the look as often as you like!
To add an avatar....
Under your "My Account" button (top right of the screen) > Avatar
Makes adding your own avatar very simple. Just make sure your pic is less than 64x64 and weighs less than 6k. If you don't know what an avatar is, it's the little picture that appears next to your name when you post. For example, my avatar is a sleepy Einstein (because I can dream, can't I?)
Giving other members "respect"...
Under your "My Account" button (top right of the screen) > Mana
Mana is a system that automatically keeps track of the most respected members of the board by allowing members to give "Mana" to a person. Think of mana as respect. A member may wish to give mana to someone for posting an intriguing post, being helpful, etc. Seems like it has possibilities, but I'm told that on larger boards it can cause trouble (hard-feelings, conflicts). We have the option of not using it. We'll look into it more....
An Interactive Events Calendar??!
Under "Calendar" button (top-right of screen)
This function has some exciting possibilies, everything from allowing an interactive event schedule to a user-generated "this Day in the War" type of thing. Can be used as either your own private planner (mark event as private - you see it, but nobody else does) or as a public calendar (mark event as public - everyone can see it.) The function for public posting of events is currently off, but we'll have it on soon. In the meantime you can still use it as a private calendar. All kinds of possibilites...ideas wanted.

You guys don't rest for long (if ever) do you? Looking forward to learning the ropes here on the new improved board. NIYODB? No, that doesn't work for me. It'll still be YODB, Ye Old Discussion Board, in my mind!
Thanks!

Even though Mom and I have been playing Trivia Challenge for quite a while now, I've never really gotten into discussion boards before, and not really sure how much posting I'll do, but I'm willing to give it a whirl. Thank you so much for the detailed how-to's. Much appreciated by this newbie!

One small problem on the home page the contents on the left is a tan color on a blue background that doesn't have enough contrast to read. Any changes to come there?
Like the new look.

39th -
That one puzzles me. There's no tan on the home page. The nav bar is blue. What kind of browser are you using? Anyone else seeing it as tan?

This is getting stranger and stranger. We checked the site on a spare computer we don't use often. Sure enough (on Firefox only) there was the tan lettering. I started to play with the CSS, decided to look at it again on that computer, hit refresh, and the problem was gone! I beginning to think it's due to the propagation not being fully complete, so I'm going to wait till tommorow to make any changes. If the problem remains tommorow, please post here.
It shouldn't be possible for it to appear tan, since the color is hard-coded into the css, like so:
#menu a
{
display: block;
padding: 2px;
margin-left: 4px;
width: 124px;
background-color:#7B88A9;
border-bottom: 1px solid #29425A;
}
#menu a:link, #menuitems a:visited
{
color:#7B88A9;
text-decoration: none;
font-weight:bold;
So the only color that should be appearing is :#7B88A9, which is a lite blue. Blah, if the last 2 weeks have been a vacation, I never want another one
