I come from a military family. Many years ago my grandfather (WWII vet) was doing research on our family tree. He came across my g-g grandfathers discharge paper from the 137 Regiment of the Indiana volunteers. He was a 100 day volunteer answering Mr Licoln's call.
The 137th mustered in and out of Indianapolis and was assigned to the Dept of the Cumberland assigned mostly to railroad security. Following his commitment he returned to the peaceful farming life.
My interest began with researching the 137th and has exploded from there. I have been to Gettysburg one time. I am going this weekend with my oldest son 11 and my daughter 9. We will be biking the battlefield together and camping.
I came across this board while looking for a good CW discussion forum. The ones I have found just never cut it. Now I believe that I found what I was looking for.
