I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself.  I've been interested in the American Civil War for as long as I can remember.  I was born a Yankee but have lived most of my life in Rebeldom.  The western theater is my major area of interest and Patrick Cleburne is my particular niche which is why I have the Hardee flag as my avatar.  I chose the name Iron Duke because Cleburne was a huge admirer of Wellington.  My sympathies lean towards the south but I don't have any ancestors who fought in the late unpleasantness.  I possess a wide range of history interests beyond the Civil War so I'm always ready for a good discussion.  Let me know if you guys want to know anything else.

Robert.

Welcome! I'm kind of new here myself. I also have a wide range of history interests. In addition to being a CW re-enactor, I also re-enact the Fur Trade Era.

Hello Bighouse amd Iron Duke.

Welcome aboard.  I recently found this board too and I am happy to say that it is the best ACW board on the web.

Welcome Duke! I too am a relatively new recruit. This is a good community. Folks of all ages and opinions. I am a decendent of Confederate veterans and have always had a sentimental attachment to the South.

Hey Captain,

My relatives wore blue. My gg grandfather was in the 137th Regiment Indiana Volunteers. I have a copy of his discharge papers from 1864.  I believe his brothers also served but I have been unable to confirm.

Welcome "Iron Duke" been a while since I have read anything on Cleburne, did not know that he admired Wellington. I had the chance to visit Wellingtons home in London last year, what an experience that was. You know he was called the Iron Duke because he became unpopular with the people and had to put iron bars on all his windows. Great general, he admired Napoleon, used to visit the wax museum and spend hours viewing Napoleons display.

Yes Cleburne was a big fan of Wellington. I guess it's not so strange since both were Irish. Based on anecdotes I've read, Cleburne would debate with fellow officers about whether Wellington or Napoleon was the superior general. Cleburne seems to have been in the minority.
