We wrote a few months back of the long-postponed movie "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." Well, I just saw at RottenTomatoes.com, a movie web site, that a tentative release date has been set for Sept 14, 2007. That would be a year after it was originally set to be released. Anyway, I still can't wait. Last summer I bought and read "Frank and Jesse James: The Story Behind the Legend" by Ted P. Yeatman in preparation for the movie. I'll probably have to spread read through it to review by next August because I'm kind of rusty on what the book said by now.

I wish I could be a fly on the ceiling listening in on your round table discussions and your book reading circle. I'd behave and promise not to pester anybody.

JDC There are caves all over MO. that claim Jesse and the boys hid out there . Bet they used quite a few of em too so wouldnt be surprised about yours . Mark Twain cave in Hannibal,MO claims to have Jesse's signature on a cave wall they have had to incase it in protective glass to keep it from touchy feely visitors.

New information about the much anticipated movie of Jesse James courtesy of movieblog.com. As of this May 2007, there is still disagreement over the editing. It seems that one person wants a three hour long atmospheric, contemplative look at Jesse James and the other wants a faster paced, more action packed and much shorter film. I say, hurry up and decide. Just figure out what highlights Brad Pitt's capable acting and James' dramatic life without having a B-movie cowboy western. But please, let's not kill the story with three hours of contemplation and "atmosphere". Anyway, it seems we won't have the movie for quite some time yet. Sorry.

I have my doubts that Jesse James was ever in Adair, Oklahoma. I do know that the James-Younger gang derailed and robbed a train of $3000. southwest of Adair, IOWA on July 21, 1873. Adair, Iowa was a newly incorporated town named after General John Adair (He served in the War of 1812 and was also governor of Kentucky). Jesse James - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia As for Adair Oklahoma and the Dalton gang- in July of 1892, they robbed a train and a train station there. But they might have never robbed a bank there. (By then, Jesse James had been dead for ten years). Dalton Gang - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Perhaps, as with Jesse James, more bank and train robberies were attributed to them than they actually committed.

On the subject of Jesse James' Caves and local lore, there is a significant location in southeastern South Dakota, in and around the hamlet of Garretson. Fleeing from the abortive effort at Northfield, Minnesota, Jesse is said to have traversed the area staying in at lease one "cave" in the quartzite palisades that border the nearby river. (In this rock, caves were more overhangs than what first comes to mind when thinking of them.) Local legend also has it that Jesse once eluded his pursuers by jumping his horse over a chasm. The chasm is, of course, still there and a locally popular tourist attraction. Had Jesse not made that jump (and perhaps he didn't) he'd have been quite dead, not to mention his horse. The exposed rock on both sides gives no purchase to a leaping or landing horse. On the other hand, there simply is no way across without miles of detour. Has any fan of the Jesse James legend heard of this tiny part of it? Ole

Ole, Some people believe the South Dakota story, and apparently Jesse was in that area. Below is a page from a forum where some folks talk about the legend. Scroll down to the posting of John Koblas. It gives a detailed account of the incident (or the alleged incident). South Dakota,Jesse James etc. - Page 2 - South Dakota - City-Data Forum

It gives me a major bellyache as well. Most especially watching the Ingalls family roaming through the mountains of SW Minnesota -- yes, my wife is a nostalgia nut and still catches re-runs of "Little House" whenever possible. Ole

I feel the same way about "CSI Miami." Only parts of it are actually filmed in Miami. The rest is filmed in California. I know immediately when I can spy a little mountain or large hill in the background or the vegetation or architecture is wrong or even the lighting is different. At least most, if not all, of the "Miami Vice" TV series was filmed in the Miami area. Much of "CSI Las Vegas" also is filmed in California. I can tell when scenes aren't filmed in Las Vegas. The movie "Miami Vice" was filmed in the Miami area too. I'm not sure the Cuban scenes were authentic, but can't really say for sure having never been there. I sort of figured they might be in Puerto Rico. Could be wrong on that. . Last edited on Sun May 20th, 2007 12:37 am by CleburneFan |

I can usually tell you exactly where in L.A. county the pictures were made. NYPD Blue used Patriotic Hall downtown as the exterior of the police department. Now this place has Civil War connections as it is the final resting place of all the GAR records of the California /Nevada GAR records. I know I helped process them as they are closing the building for restoration . I have noticed lately many pictures are not even made in L.A. many are made in Toronto or Vancover Canada. The series Into the West had a scene supose to be on the Oregon Trail a week or two out . They were in the middle of the Rockies. Canadian Rockies . Something esle I saw was supose to be New Mexico. instead it was the Rockies of Canada.
