There is always a clueless private If early on, a guy shows a picture of his wife or girlfriend to his buddies he is going to die. There is usually a tough disciplinarian officer, he either turns out to be the great leader who knew this tough love would save lives or he is a martinet who gets people killed unecessarily or chickens out when the real bullets fly.
