Due to a recent surgery, I am house-bond and going out of my mind with boredom!!

I want to play a Civil War strategy game, so I "googled" "free civil war online game".....After countless hours, I can't find a decent strategy game. When I do find one, it won't download on to my laptop (I don't know much about computers, but they won't download because my computer is a 64 something or other).

I have a Civil War Generals cd game from 11 years ago, but it won't download for the same 64 something-or-other reason.....

Anyway, does anyone have websites for a CW game that I can use to cure boredom??

Thanks, y'all!!

Maybe the game's too old and won't work on a laptop.

Thanks!!

Huh. I've got old CD-Roms that so far still seem to work on a regular desktop but because of what laptops were like they refuse to load onto the laptop I got last year, which is what made me think that. But if you're trying newer programs with the same result then maybe it's the laptop.

Hellcat,
Thanks!!
The Gettysburg site was to download a demo, which would be ok, but I didn't try to download it because I want to play a complete game.
The second website looked pretty cool (I wantd to play the Shiloh scenario) but they want $49.
I greatly appreciate your time!!!
Thanks!!

The second site I didn't really get the price on. It looked like it should have been add-ons for the old Robert E. Lee Civil War General and Civil War Generals 2 games to me. Especially the latter since it has a scenario creator. Those games were probably $30 when they first came out. Bought Civil War Generals 2 years after it came out at the local Staples for less than $10. For add on scenarios I wouldn't pay more than the game was originally worth. But for a full game rather than add-on scenarios I might think about $50. Think and probably drool at the idea without ever getting and finding out if it's something I'd actually enjoy. So I can't blame you there for not wanting to pay that much.

On the Gettysburg it does have a link for a purchase at $10.

I'd like to have found some old DOS games for you for free. But none of the sites I've got have any old Civil War games. And off the Civil War links I visit these were the only two that really hit with any kind of computer games. Like I said, didn't know if they would work for you. No clue what some folks may be willing to pay so the best I can do is just put things I find out there and let folks decide if they want to turn them down or take them. Sorry I couldn't do more for you. I'll probably check my other links and see if there's anything else there.

Sorry, no luck. I did find Civil War Generals 2 for free by doing a web search, but checking it against my disk it's just a demo, at about 11 Mb it's too small a file to be the full thing. The disk reads all the files at over 500 Mb.

Do you have the sid mier's gettysburg game? if not you can download the demo which will show up in you computer file. the game gives you three scenerios that can be modified in the preferences menu and options menu. you can actually play the same scenerio 10 times without playing the exact same way. like you might have more men in one or you may attack on one but defend on the next. It should keep you busy for a few days

the sid meirs games should download since it was made i think in 96. give it a shot it only takes a few minutes to download. make sure you go to fraxis games though, thats the real webpage. you can download the confederate demo or the yankee demo. there is also the antietam game from sid, it's pretty good but i still favor the gettysburg game.

no problem, might be time for a new laptop i think. could probably find a decent one on craigslist for about 150, might have to put a graphics card on it which should only be about 30 bucks, and thats to play the high qaulity games like scourge of war gettysburg.

I think it may be the graphics card in your laptop. They often have 'integrated' cards which don't have the correct 3d memory and power to run new games. There's not much you can do as you can't usually swap the card.
