I hope you all will make time to visit the McRae Papers collection now featured in the Preservation folder on the Authentic Campaigner Website (A Civil War Interactive 5-Star site). Long held paradigms about Confederate uniform supply just got scattered to the winds. Enjoy whats presented there and please spread the word among your comrades and other interested parties - there is much more to come. Now we have to raise some funding so this collection stays together. >> The McRae Papers Collection Regards, Paul Calloway Authentic-Campaigner.com

It is indeed one more nail in the coffin of the idea of the ragged rebel. Good God but the Lost Causers of the world will hate it... can't wait to watch them squirm while they attempt to explain it away.

Where the CS soldier was ragged was in his stomach thanks to the horrible work of Lucius Northrop. When I pulled my great-great GF's records a few years ago, I realized the myth of the inadequate supply of uniforms to the Confederate soldier. He got a regular issue of clothing. Of course how much of it was shoddy I wouldn't know without looking at the diaries or letters of the folks in his regiment .
