Have an ancestor, Lucien H. Spencer, who served in the 5th Michigan Cav. He was captured at Trevillion Station and a pow at Andersonville and later Millen. While looking into the Andersonville pow list on the nps soldier/sailor website I noticed a caption to "see Oscar C. Wood's diary". Have googled this but come up empty. Any thoughts as to Oscar C. Wood's diary? Doc C

Doc C, Maybe this will be helpful: Through the help of friend I found out that Oscar C. Wood was a private and then a corporal in the 5th Michigan Cavalry. Here's the 5th Michigan roster: http://www.michiganinthewar.org/cavalry/5cava.htm Here's his gravesite: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=wood&GSfn=oscar&GSbyrel=in&GSdyrel=in&GSob=n&GRid=6041988& Here's where he was in 1894 (Elkland Township): http://www.accessgenealogy.com/scripts/data/database.cgi?file=Data&report=SingleArticle&ArticleID=0024676 And maybe this could help for further research: http://www.usgennet.org/usa/mi/county/tuscola/tcgs.htm Good luck, Doc. At least it's a start. Does anyone ever ask you 'What's up, Doc?'

Thanks PC, I should have looked at the regiments roster. Undoubtably he has a diary out there somewhere. So begins my quest. Lucien Spencer had a brother in the 1st Mich Cav, William, who was a pow at the 2nd Manassas, then later wounded at Five Forks where he had his right arm amputated. I'm currently compiling a list of all my ancestors who were captured/pow, wounded, kia. As you can problably surmise, I like lists. People haven't asked that question for a while, wish I did have something to tell them, in regards to what's up. Doc C Last edited on Fri Mar 20th, 2009 09:13 pm by Doc C |
