Found a guy in the family tree that served in the 10th Alabama Infantry. I have been doing online research on the regiment. Does anyone know of a detailed book on the 10th Alabama?

The only one I can bring up through the Worldcat database is "The Tenth Alabama Infantry Regiment in the Confederate States Army" by Ira Harrison Weissinger. Its a bit dated (1961) but its the only book I can see on the whole regiment. There is also a memoir from Company D (A Personal Account of the 10th Alabama Regiment, Co. "D" during the Civil War by Bailey George McClelen) and an old (1937) book on Company G (Company G of the Tenth Alabama Regiment during the War Between the States by Irene King). The problem I see with these however, is that they appear to be very hard to get a hold of. Hope that helps though!

Mark...I tend to like the old books better. Especially the ones from the 1890s....that was the vets were really cranking out the regimental histories.

I agree BHR62. I will take anything from the Vets themselves over anything new. There are alot of newer books I like, but there is just something special in the telling, from someone you know was there.

very true Pender...I like that feeling that they are telling you personally the story.  My dad grew up in the 30's (I was a late in life baby...stuff happens) and told me how a Civil War vet told him stories of charging up Missionary Ridge, Chickamauga, and Kennesaw Mountain etc.

Thanks Mark for the book titles...I will give them a look and see if I can find them online or at Amazon.  My ancestor was in Company C of the 10th Alabama.  From what I've read online he had a really exciting Civil War that is for sure.
