Okay, here's a simple one: what's your favorite Civil War topic to talk about? What's the topic/battle/person/etc. you could talk about over and over again and never get tired of, or maybe the CW story you tell again and again?

This is coming from a too-busy and harried mom who would like nothing better than sit and shoot the breeze about Gettysburg, or retell the stories my great-aunt Mary from Crewe, Virginia, told me about neighbors' relatives and Lee's retreat from Patersburg (Crewe and environs are along that route, and she had some great handed-down stories to tell!).

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain, and basically any battle. I actually spent a half an hour at lunch schooling my best friend on Fredericksburg, while drawing a battle map freehand. Last week I got my mom to climb Big Round Top, and on the way back down I told her about the importance Harper's Ferry played in the war. My passion pretty much extends to all aspects of the war.

My parents don't exactly share my interests; they're just patient lol. We're close enough to Gettysburg, Antietam, Monocacy, and the National Civil War Museum that I can spend a day at a site and go home. I'm at college in York most of the time, so that doesn't happen too often.

I guess I'm strange. The story of the civilians during the war always held my interest. Questions like "What was it really like to be a resident of Franklin on that fateful day?" or " How did the orphans, the sick and the mentally infirm at the Getysburg Almshouse handle the sudden whirl-wind of carnage they suddenly found themselves in the middle of. The common man (and woman)....

The 20th Massachusetts of course and also the Chattanooga Campaign. When I first started getting interested I liked to read about the Vicksburg Campaign.

I am fascinated by the narrowly missed opportunities and about people who were in the right (or wrong) place at the right time.  A prime example of being in the right place at the right time is Joshua Lawrence Chamberlin at Little Round Top.

I also enjoy reading novels about the war which tell about what might have happened.

All aspects of the war but mainly East Tennessee because it is in my backyard.

TD, that makes me an orphan, too.

Younz all have diverse interests.  That makes it hard to go into depth on any one subject (except Gettysburg, it seems, on this board).  I know just enough to get myself into trouble on any subject in the first paragraph.  I always have to dig out the text books because most of the time I have no idea what I'm talking about. :)

Me, too, izzy. I'm always playing catch up on here. At least I've gotten really good at giving my books a workout--I've become pretty good at remembering what towering stack of them has what book I need right then!
