I was wondering if anyone knows of any Civil War Photo Contests? I recently entered one for the CWPT, and got a cute postcard back telling me I was not a winner. I think I take pretty darn good pics, but I'm still learning. Thanks and hope all are well.

Funny you should mention that Paula, since we've been knocking the idea around. Would be curious to see how many others would be interested.

I've entered the CWPT photo contest for about 5 out of the last 7 years. I've never finished in the top three in any category. Of the three categories I submitted photos for this year, I felt very confident that I would place in at least one of them. It wasn't meant to be. I'm curious to see the actual winners and see how they stack up against my entries.
(Yes, I'm a sore loser about this.)
The top 4 photos were what I entered. The first two were for the "Then and Now" category. (If your computer monitor is as poor as mine, the pics won't look as good as they should.)

Nice photos, indy. I would be a sore loser too. Here is the photo I entered, of Ft. Fisher, NC.

That's a nice pic you have there yourself. It seems that a lot of winners in the past have a pic with the sun in just the right place in the background of the photo. They also seem to like photos made following a snowfall.
Sometimes they use some of the "loser" photos throughout their quarterly newsletter. There's still hope that we'll see one of our photos there.
I'm headed to Appomattox, Manassas, Antietam, and Gettysburg later this year. I'll see if I can do better next time.
I may already have a winning photo in my collection and just haven't entered the "right" one yet. We really have no idea what the judges are looking for, even after looking at the winners. (It's probably too late to go out there and get a photo of a snow covered, sunlit monument. )

Very nice pics folks. Indy, believe it or not, the one of yours I liked best in your pages was the Lincoln Office door. Stark simplicity is good sometimes. Since I wouldn't be eligible even if we do throw a contest, no harm in showing off my favorite I guess. We have over a thousand photos we've take on various battlefields, but I've only liked two of them enough to get them enlarged - this one and one of Dunker Church....

That's funny you mention the door. (Actually, it's the door to his home.)Someone else said it was their favorite too. I already had a close-up photo in mind for their next contest, but I may have to rethink that and possibly use this one.

Too bad someone (*ahem!* 19thin!) didn't trust another certain someone (*cough* me!) several months ago. He could be a winner RIGHT NOW.

After seeing what your "taste" in celebrities is, how could I trust you?
(Actually, I think I had already entered my photos before I posted or before you saw the photo in question.)

Susan,
Actually just copy and pasting a picture should work. Just make sure it's sized first (500 pixels wide at the most). The alternative way is to post it on a webpage somewhere, if you happen to have one), copy the exact url of the image (not just the page), then click the image button on the toolbar above (looks like 3 dots, just to the left of the chain icon) and fill in the url of the picture in the box that comes up.

What a great bunch of pictures! I've been to, and taken similar photos of a lot of the same places, and it's nice to see other folks pictures. I took several in the Vicksburg area last spring, I'll try and post some of them. As for a photo contest, I think it would be fun although I've never entered one before. Again, great pics everyone!

I wanted to post this picture as it is taken from about the same place the other Burnsides Bridge was taken. The wonderful one Joe posted. I took it two years ago in April . It was so dense with trees. You can almost tell which are the same trees in the other picture. Trust me the bridge is there. Look closely. I think good pictures besides having to have a good photographer also have to be taken at the right time of year!!!!!! I wanted one like Joe's picture. sigh. . . this is what I got.

Susuan,
You're picture isn't showing, but it appears to be in a format with a .JPE suffix, which I've never heard of. I would guess that's the problem. You can only post .JPG and .GIF pics.

Well rats, I was trying to show a picture where you can't see the bridge for all the leaves on the trees. No big deal.
On the other hand that picture of the battle is amazing !!!!!! TJ. That would win an award in my book anywhere. I love thre other picture too.

The picture of the fiery flash from the cannon was quite by accident! There was a firing demonstration, and I was just clicking away, hoping for at least a decent shot. When I got the pictures back from being developed, I was amazed that I had caught that on film!
As my sister likes to remind me, even a blind squirrel gets a nut now and then!
