I believe secession was and is Constitutional. If secession is legal then it cannot be treasonous. To claim that those who advocated for secession were traitors is patently absurd. the Radical Republicans imprisioned President Davis for 2years, then let him go because to try him would be to give legitimacy to the argument that secession was constitutional. If they had a grain of a hope of trying him for treason, they would have.
