If I am not mistaken, I believe the men of the Hunley were given proper military honors under the flag they served. Two good friends of mine were involved in the recovery and excavations of the Hunley. One of them served as a pall bearer as well. U.S military color guards were also present to honor these fallen sailors. As far as saluting the stars and bars or the battle flag, I am one Federal reenactor who will salute during a pass and review. My military service taught me--among other things--to respect the flags of all.
