Another show I used to watch way back when was One Step Beyond. It was on the order of Twilight Zone, but not quite. The stories were supposedly based on real incidents dealing with the occult and supernatural -- hauntings and the like. It was hosted by John Newland.

Recently, I picked up a few of the episodes on some bargain DVDs, and found there were a couple of Civil War stories mixed in. One was "The Day the World Wept", about the Lincoln assassination. And then there was one called "The Executioner," about a young Confederate soldier who's captured by a sadistic Yankee colonel and saved by a phantom dog.
