I would love to see last full measure on the big screen. I have whole passages of "Gettysburg" dialog memorized from seeing it countless times. Also at the risk of being lambasted heartily I really enjoyed G&G. I don't mind how long a movie runs if it takes it's time and develops the characters or tells an expansive story. But honestly I can understand how it would turn a lot of people off. It should have been a mini-series of about 10 hours ala John Adams. Also I was disappointed that it deviated from the book by nearly eliminating characters(Hancock) and adding others(Jim)that absolutely did nothing to advance the story. I am a huge fan of Mr. Shaara's work and was truly surprised at how far G&G strayed from his excellent book. Hey maybe Tom Hanks could pitch it to his buddies at HBO! Judging from their track record with historically themed series like Band of Brothers, Rome, From the Earth to the Moon, and John Adams I bet they would do a bang up job.
