Gettysburg the movie was originally planned as a multipart tv movie I know it got edited for the big screen (though it is like impossible to find any of the extended version deluxe editions of the Movie...available on vhs only). Gods and Generals damn near bankrupted Ted Turner's Production company and studio if I remember correctly......The movie itself wasnt bad except I think it packed waaay too much in and as mentioned above would have worked infinitely better as a 10 hr miniseries (maybe more than a mention of Antietam and 2nd Manassas). It probably would have worked out better finiacially too (though I dont know the first thing about that industry). The Last full measure would basically be the same type of deal I think.. Though the book lends itself to some epic battle scenes made for the big screen, overall to do the book justice iin terms of depth and substance I think another miniseries (as someone said earlier ala HBO and Tom Hanks) would be necessary. ken
