 Has anyone done a study of the ages, occupations, etc. of Civil War soldiers?  I would be interested in seeing them for USA vs. CSA.  Regulars vs. Volunteers.  The various branches/arms.

How did casualties differ by age? Rank?  Any statistics published on those?

It may sound like a bunch of military sociology (which can be fascinating), but really does tell an important part of the people story of the war.
