A good start is to compare Sherman to his contemporaries... What are the criteria for 'war crimes'? Did such a term even exist in the 1860s? Henry Wirtz, e commander at Andersonville, was executed after the war, in retribution for what today we would call war crimes, but the exact charges against him were seven for murder. What would 'war crimes' charges against Sherman be and what is the evidence? HankC
