I threw that out there as a possible justification for Jefferson saying that all men are created equal. If slaves, or blacks, were not men in his eyes, then all is good with his words. I think it was Jefferson that said something along the lines of - slavery is like holding a tiger by the tail - you don't like it, but you don't dare let go either.
