I think that Jefferson said it was like holding a wolf by the ears. Whatever. It's the thought that counts. To make a short story longer (and to avoid having to go outside an work some more), I do believe that Jefferson did actually believe that "all men" included the black man. He just didn't have a clue as to how that might be accomplished. (It would take 200 more years for people to begin to accept that self-evident truth, and some of us can't exactly get our fingers around it yet.) Whether he did, or not, is quite irrelevant. We, the people, weren't on the same wavelength. ole
