Don't forget that General Stuart and his cavalry were nowhere near Gettysburg. In fact he arrived in the evening of the 2nd day of battle. He was "just out for a joyride" and getting his name in the Pennsylvania newspapers.
If he had stayed with Lee's army, scouting the Federal positions, the battle of Gettysburg might have been a resounding Southern victory.
