Have to disagree the book was much better. I will say this, in the book I was more interested in the homefront issues than Inman and his odyssey and kept wanting the focus to go back there. However in the film it was the other way around.
There are two episodes of some pretty raw footage (of a sexual nature) in the film SS, so you may want to have your parents prewiew that or skip through it if you watch it, as with most Hollywood films the sex is gratuitous and skipping it will not ruin the plot for you.
