Ole I didn't know I had a dog that was trying to hunt. I agree with your points. I especially like your description of a democracy which is majority rule while respecting the rights of the minority. Most people do not understand this - especially in countries without a history of a democracy. My point was that we need to consider the pre-Civil War mentality. One of the main reasons to study the Civil War is that it was the pivotal event in American History. The War changed the States vs. national government dynamic.
