The problem with the WWI Allied victory was that the Versailles Treaty was vengeful and the reparations costs ended up crippling the Germany economy that helped bring about the rise of the Nazi party. As a psychopath Hitler would have sought revenge regardless. Interestingly in the 1930s, ca. 37% of the popular vote Hitler received was from women, for the social measures, like nursery schools, the party promoted (they were all for keeping women in the house which was part of the misogynist policies that helped defeat them). So occupation is not the full story. Britain and France could not have afforded to occupy Germany. CKL
