I am researching Civil War family history in which my ancestor was killed by guerrillas while he was coming home in Ky on a leave. Some family say this was called a turn leave, in which a soldier could provide for his family. The phrase implied food provisions such as a turn of flour. I can't seem to track down this phrase. Any ideas?
