 I have been out of the reenacting world for a few years now, but I recognize this accusation. I have participated in both Confederate and Federal units and for the most part did not encounter any racists. The fact is though, that there are racists in BOTH camps, just as there are in "real" life.

I will say that I attended an event in Pleasant Hill, Louisiana several years ago that was attended by representatives from the KKK. They placed some contentious flags about the event grounds and it was the Confederate reenactors that kindly persuaded them to remove them.
