The Confederacy had an offical "roll of honor" that was published in after action reports. This sounds like an SCV knock off. I prefer the orginal myself. Regardless, if the stories are correct, then SGT Kirkland was definetly deserving of recognition.

The Medal of Honors in his book were selected by a group of UDC-SCV people.
I am surprised you haven't heard it in a book about the Battle of Fredricksburg.
