Currently researching the Unionville 18. This was a group of former slaves who were freed by their Union masters, US paid their masters for their freedom in order to join the Union Army. When they returned from the war one of their former masters gave them land which they formed a black settlement here on the eastern shore of MD, Unionville. Their regiments were the 4th, 7th, 9th, 19th, 39th and 40th. Particularly interested in the 19th which was in the 4th Division, 9th Corps at the Mine Explosion in Petersburg. Does anyone have any recommendations for books on the USCT's. Doc C
