Bama- Similarly, some historians have over the years increased estimates of the number of deaths that took place during World War II. This has been a gradual process. The: "Conventional wisdom" regarding Civil War deaths has been in the range of 620,000 it seems for some time. A figure of 750,000 would represent over a 20% increase. Thats a significant difference. We'll see if a consensus will eventually increase the generally accepted figure. At any rate, the precise number can never be known.
