 Welcome, sjh.  This is great place to exchange opinions and get acquainted with others who share your passion.

Is there a Civil War Round Table in your area?  You might consider going to a meeting.  You can meet others, hear excellent speakers, participate in activities.  Our Bull Run RT in Centreville, VA, has a monthly newsletter and day trips to significant sites within 2 hrs. drive.  We're also active in preservation of battlefields, fortifications, and camp sites.  There isn't much left here in Fairfax County.
