I am trying to find my gggrandfather who was in the Civil War in 1865 from Illinois.
I have his pension record with his daughter as next of kin.  When I searched National Archives his regiment and other information were correct but the record said he was 5.5 in height and was born in NY.  He was 5.9 and born in Ireland according to his pension.  Could there be such a mistake in the National Archives records?
Also where can I find his enlistment record and would it list next of kin?
His name was John Courtney - 147Regiment from Illinois Company K.
