CS script was totally worthless by that time. US coinage continued to be used throughout the war w/ bartering thrown in to supplement & in places suplant. When US troops arrived they were also paid, some for the first time in 4 mos, and many spent freely in the city; which helped considerably. Savannah residents were less hostile to Shermans men than most any for a variety of reasons not the least of which was Shermans order to provide rations to the city and when Shermans men gave the children a Christmas... many a hard feeling evaporated.
