Hello Patty, I first came across mention of Harter in the "Encyclopedia of the American Civil War," by Heidler and Heidler, under the entry for "Espionage," page 657. Interested, I found a more detailed account of Harter's adventure in "The Secret War For the Union," by Edwin Fishel. Regards, Dave Gorski
