Don't hold back, Eric. Just vent! The subject stirred me to locate Lee's Real Plan at Gettysburg, by Troy Harman. Not the same book, of course, but similarly striving to explain Lee's thoughts -- like that is possible. So far, his premise seems to be that, during the evening of the first, Lee's object was Cemetery Hill. It was the object on the 2nd and on the 3rd. In some ways simplistic and in some ways thought-provoking. Have you read, or even heard of this one? Harman has been a park ranger at Gettysburg since '89. Stackpole Books, 2003. Ole
