For television it would have to be a mini-series I'd rank as my favorite because I really remember watching no other depictions of the war on television. So I'll name North & South. I have enjoyed the CW Journals and other programming on the History Channel, but I have the impression that's not the type of programming you're asking about. For movies I'd offer the same line up and even in the same order as javal (that's scarey  )---RIDE WITH THE DEVIL, GLORY & GETTYSBURG.Best regards. Pat
