I also am facinated by the many instruments of that war..everything from pistols, to canon, bullets to spurs and everything in between.

What I don't understand is the desire to dig up relics. Many families have relics that have passed from generation to generation and are part of family heritage. Museums around battlefields have an abundance of artifacts picked up on the ground after the battle, or excavated during construction projects. Private museums have things they have purchased or been given, but that is not what I consider relic hunting.

To my mind, relic hunting is the acto f taking a metal detector and looking for "hits then digging up whatever it was that caused the hit.... I don't understand the desire to do that... those items have laid undesturbed for 140 years or so, and I think  they should continue to lay undistrubed...but that is only my opinion.
