I am not sure what I am saying. I really have no interest in digging for relics. I think to stumble upon and desecrate a grave while digging for a relic would be awful.
When I think of relic hunting, I see in my mind's eye the specticle of Dickson Mounds in Illinois. Excavated and run by the state, the side of a mound was opened and the bodies of several families of prehistoric natives were shown partially excavated,as an educational exhibit. Lots of relics were on display here too.
Every year busloads of schoolchildren toured this "exhibit" until public pressure finally forced the state to close it 8 to 10 years ago.
There are too many artifacts that did not come from digging to have to resort to digging for them.
My feeling is.....it don't belong to me...let it lay
I agree that private individuals on private lands with the permission of the owners have the right to relic hunt, but I continue to not understand why anyone would want to.
