I've seen no reference to what they called each other. Certainly, Sherman was called "Cump" by his family and USMA chums (Thomas, included), but whether this was adopted by Grant is unknown to me. Same goes for the sobriquet, Sam. Ought the script writers have used nicknames instead of last names? Maybe they did their homework and found no records of what the generals called each other. Maybe they just played it safe. Ole
