Doc, I read Gettysburg first and now I'm hooked on Sears. I also have his Chancellorsville book on order at the moment. I like the way he combines the on the ground tactical situation with the big picture. This is important for me beng a beginner.
I read Foote's triology to get a good grounding on the subject now I'm interested in reading up on the various campaigns and battles. After that unit histories and some of the personalities, oh and some more bookshelves.
