Even a good Bernard Hermann score in say Cape Fear, Vertigo or Psycho.
Don't get me started on film music ... too late! It's like this. I don't need music to tell me how to feel during some scene in a film. Too often music is used in movies, 1) as a crutch to support poor writing and direction, and 2) as a sledgehammer to make sure we stupid viewers get the point. The worst offenders in my opinion are the team of Steven Spielberg and John Williams. Sorry to sound like a grouch, but we all have our personal failings.
