Well said, Texas Defender. The South raised an army because, in their eyes, they were a soverign nation that didn't want a foreign army on their soil. This sounds kind of like the reason the Continental Army sprang up.....because they didn't want British foreigners on their soil...... Maybe I'm over-simplifying things, but it sure seems like a good reason to create an army---to keep potential agressors out of our "backyard".
