This is way too good a thread to let it die a natural death...so I will throw my 2 cents in.. Prior to the centennial, there were many regional names for the war, all pretty much recognized by everyone. At the time of the centennial, the feds wanting, as the feds always do, to catagorize and pigeonhole the war in its proper place, by its proper name decreed that in the interests of beaurocracy (thank you Gen Jackson) or somesuch, now and forever more they would call it the CW. Now who can argue with a fed? Ed
